About

Emma Yan is an executive coach and career strategist who helps high-achieving professionals find clarity and make intentional, strategic moves toward long-term success. Her pragmatic, action-focused style is grounded in 13 years of experience on Wall Street, most recently serving as a Managing Director in investment banking and in sales & trading. Raised in the U.S. after emigrating from China at age six, Emma has long lived at the intersection of Eastern and Western values. Balancing respect for hierarchy and humility with finding her voice and visibility, she rose quickly to senior leadership in a highly competitive industry. Only in retrospect did she recognize how often she muted parts of herself to meet the expectations of her roles. But authentic leadership isn’t possible when you’re constantly editing who you are – and this realization now fuels her work supporting Asian American executives as they face often conflicting demands from corporate America. Emma’s coaching works on parallel paths: external skills and internal operating systems. In practice, she helps clients navigate career complexities with tact while bringing awareness to the beliefs, narratives, and blind spots that create those challenges in the first place. Her approach is holistic and deeply human, blending each client’s personal history, cultural context, and professional goals to co-create a path forward that feels both authentic and sustainable. She holds a BS in Finance and Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a graduate of CoachU, and a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She is conversational in Mandarin Chinese and holds multiple FINRA certifications. Outside of coaching, Emma leads an active lifestyle - whether skiing the tallest mountains or diving the deepest waters. A lifelong learner, she's endlessly curious and always seeking new skills and experiences. Her love language is travel and food; she believes some of the best conversations in life happen over a great meal in an unfamiliar place.

Why AWCC?

I’m looking to be part of a community of like-minded coaches who have built their own success and are now in a phase of life focused on giving back. I imagine many members of AWCC share similar upbringings, where lived experience becomes a source of inspiration to help others. I hope not only to learn from other coaches’ journeys, but also to find meaningful ways to collaborate so we can expand our collective reach.
